Kate Walsh, who was born on October 13, 1967 in San Jose, California, started acting when she joined the regional theater in University of Arizona. Upon moving to Chicago, she participated in the Piven Theatre Workshop, joined the Chicago Shakespeare Repertory and worked for the “Born Guilty” radio play. Kate then moved to New York and performed in several Off-Broadway plays with the comedy troupe Burn Manhattan.
Walsh started a career in films and TV in 1996, appearing in TV shows like “Law & Order,” “Swift Justice” and “Homicide: Life on the Street” as well as films such as “Normal Life,” “Peppermills” and “Night of the Lawyers.” However, she landed her big break in 1997 when she joined the cast of “The Drew Carey Show” as Drew’s girl friend Nicki Fifer. Other better opportunities followed for Kate Walsh, including a role in “The Norm Show” and the HBO TV series “The Mind of the Married Man.”
Kate Walsh collaborated with Will Ferrell in several films, including the 2005 comedy “Kicking & Screaming,” “Bewitched” and “Wake Up, Ron Burgundy: The Lost Movie.” Kate’s other film credits include “Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer,” “Three Below Zero,” “Heaven,” “The Family Man,” “Anatomy of a Breakup,” “A Day in the Life of Nancy M. Pimental,” “Under the Tuscan Sun,” “After the Sunset,” “One Way to Valhalla,” and “Legion.”
In 2005, Kate was cast in the ABC drama “Grey’s Anatomy,” where she played Dr. Addison Montgomery. By 2007, ABC launched Kate Walsh’s own series entitled “Private Practice,” a spin-off of Grey’s Anatomy where Kate also portrays Dr. Montgomery.
Kate Walsh is the spokeswoman for Caress’ body wash, Exotic Oil Infusions. She also appeared on the print and TV ad campaigns for the 2008 Cadillac CTS. In 2008, Walsh was elected for the governing board of the Screen Actors Guild, which she will be serving until 2011. Kate also participated in the 2008 video “Yes We Can” that supports Barack Obama’s presidential campaign.
